Zero Wing is a 1989 side-scrolling shoot arcade game. The player is a lone hero who will save the universe from an evil force. The European version of the Mega Drive port was the source for All your base are belong to us, an Internet meme which plays off of the poorly translated English in the game's introduction. As with other scrolling shooters, the aim of the game is to shoot all enemies that appear on screen and avoid getting obliterated by enemy fire, crashing into enemies or into foreground scenery. There are mid-level and end-of-level boss enemies that stay with the player until they are defeated. The game features eight levels, each a few minute's long and featuring different styles and enemies. The player, a ZIG star fighter, has several ways to attack. Using the main cannon single-shot, scatter-shot, lasers, or homing missiles. Ram smaller enemies with the orbital cannons that appear above and below the ZIG. These cannons fire whatever weapon is equipped on the main ship at the time, similar to R-Type Leo. Grab an enemy using the tractor beam and releasing it at another enemy. Release the spherical front shield once it is collected. In the intro scenes, the ZIG's windows are green. In the game itself, the windows change colour depending on what weapon the player has. Soon after starting, the player encounters power-up ships. If destroyed, they leave behind power-ups. These run in the sequence of red weapon, blue weapon, green weapon, and speed-up, and then start with red again. There is also an occasional shield power-up, which attaches to the front of the ship. Once the first weapon power-up is collected, two small ships appear above and below the ZIG, and follow its exact movements. These extra ships are impervious and can be used as shields. As they occasionally move nearer to the ZIG when blocked by large enemies or foreground scenery, they can serve as a warning to the player that they should move carefully to avoid a collision. Each of the three main weapons has three power levels. Each time the same weapon is collected, the power level increases. If a different weapon is collected, it starts back on level 1 power, unless level 3 powers were already attained previously. If a second shield power-up is obtained while one is already held, a special power-up will replace it which increase all weapons to a special, otherwise unattainable, level 4. Level 4 weapons may also be obtained by detonating an object that would yield another bomb power up while already carrying a bomb.

Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel is a platform game, a spin-off of the Aero the Acro-Bat series. The main star is Zero, Aero's rival from the previous games. The plot begins halfway through the plot of Aero the Acro-bat 2. Zero receives a telegram from his old girlfriend Amy telling him that an evil lumberjack named Jacques Le Sheets has invaded Stony Forest, their island homeland, and has been chopping down the trees there in order to create an abundant supply of paper, which he will use to print counterfeit money using stolen plates already in his possession. In addition to that, he has also captured her father. Despite protests from his master Edgar Ektor to not do it, who tells him nothing is more important than his mission with him, notably referring to Ektor's Plan B from Aero 2, Zero decides to return home and stop Le Sheets, which explains his absence from Ektor's side in the Aero 2 final battle. Upon arriving at the island, Zero's plane is shot down and crashes on the beach, so he starts making his way to the forest on foot. Zero's path takes him through the enemy-infested beach, up the cliffs where he faces two humanoids made of rock, into a volcano where he defeats mining workers and guard robots, during which he learns- after interrogating one of the beaten robots- that Le Sheets is at his paper factory, and that he is now holding Amy captive, after she tried unsuccessfully to save her father herself, through a river on a jet ski, into the forest where he defeats a metal claw-wielding creature, through a toxic waste sewer on a motorboat, and finally right into Le Sheets' factory. After confronting and defeating Le Sheets on the roof, Zero spots a flying ship trying to escape, but he manages to board it just in time. Inside, he finds a tied-up Amy and frees her, but when they attempt to escape, they are confronted by the ship's pilot- Zero's own master Edgar Ektor, it is left for the player to assume that the counterfeit money scheme was his fool-proof back up plan referred to in the ending of Aero the Acro-bat 2. Zero squares off with Ektor in a final battle, and in the end- with some assistance from Amy- Zero is able to defeat him and leaves him aboard the ship, which crashes into the side of a cliff. Zero is seen falling victorious from the ship in a parachute while carrying Amy in his arms, but Ektor's fate is left unknown.
